As part of our ongoing collaboration and a con- tinuation of their culture- shift at the campus, the Senior Executive offices were moved from the manufacturing building into this newly created space in the research and development build- ing dubbed the Tech Center. This new space would serve as a compliment to the Customer Center com- pleted just 3 years prior.

While the move itself was important in commun- icating this renewed focus on research and development, so was the design. The concept was centered on borrowing forms present in and processes used while creating their products. As such, an overriding principle of precision and accuracy became para- mount. This is critical in their design and pro- duction efforts and be- came a mantra in creating this space.

Shown here is a view of the main conference room looking from an informal gathering area dubbed the Break-out Space. There are two images side by side to demonstrate one of the highlighted technologies; privacy glass. With the flip of a switch, the all glass room becomes completely private.

This image of the Break-out Space shows the main conference room to the right. An seen in the background is a floating built-in buffet exhibiting the type of design and detailing we used to communicate this idea of precision and accuracy.

Here we have another image of the Break-out Space, but this time looking toward the re- ception area. The elliptical ceiling soffit seen overhead extends through the glass wall to the left and forms the ceiling in the conference room. The ceiling ma- terial is a foam filled fabric panel to aid in acoustic control and privacy. The precision required for detailing and constructing this type of condition - one in which 3 or more materials come together seamlessly - is painstaking, but worth it.

Here we see another "floating" buffet in the background. Note how it "slides" in between the walls on either end with no backsplash. This is contrary to "typical" construction practices as that kind of precision is difficult to achieve. Here we felt it was critical to the design concept.
